An excerpt from the article:
Most of such facilities have come about by thinking innovatively in bringing science and technology to the door steps of common people, and innovative thinking is about how to put the information technology into effective use than making available these I.T. tools for fissiparous trends. While learning to use the IT tools, it should be ensured, that it is by a responsible training, not by obtrusive and wasteful trends and tendencies - even if it is self-learning. A certain level of maturity (not merely a qualification of experience) is required to minimize the dissipation and conserve the resources, reduce the wear-and-tear damages and insist on durability and dependability. Some instances would require local wisdom, more than broad based information and knowledge of the subject matter.
A publication could come through during the Chennai Visit (for the particpation in 10th Midyear CRSI Symposium,Trichy, July 23-25,205: the next event EVENT-07) to elaborate on this observation as above:-

Shuttle NMR Relaxometry

----An experimental Spectroscopic technique for concerns as expressed in the above presentation at 10th Midyear CRSI meeting:

Principle:

The chemical and physical principles underlying protein function can only be unraveled by gaining insight into both structural and dynamic features.
Relaxation measured at various lower field strengths and detected at high field with high spectral resolution provides dynamic information linked to structure.
Relaxometry with a sample shuttle:
"Polarization at high field".
"Relaxation at a wide range of low fields:Detection at high field."

ABSTRACT
Electrostatics play an important role in many aspects of protein chemistry. However, the accurate determination of side chain proton affinity in proteins by experiment and theory remains challenging. In recent years the field of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy has advanced the way that protonation states are measured, allowing researchers to examine electrostatic interactions at an unprecedented level of detail and accuracy. Experiments are now in place that follow pH-dependent 13C and 15N chemical shifts as spatially close as possible to the sites of protonation, allowing all titratable amino acid side chains to be probed sequence specifically. The strong and telling response of carefully selected reporter nuclei allows individual titration events to be monitored. At the same time, improved frameworks allow researchers to model multiple coupled protonation equilibria and to identify the underlying pH-dependent contributions to the chemical shifts.

ABSTRACT

Other Disciplines as Aid in Chemical Sciences and Applications of Chemical Sciences
to Other Disciplines

Sankarampadi Aravamudhan
Department of Chemistry, North Eastern Hill University, SHILLONG 793022 Meghalaya; INDIA
saravamudhan@hotmail.com

When interdisciplinary approaches in Chemical Sciences are encouraged and appreciated, two distinct contexts must be discerned; one of whether the approaches from other disciplines are required for the better understanding of the subject matter in Chemical Sciences is different from the other context of contribution of Chemical Sciences to other disciplines.

When it is a question of students learning Chemistry, then the former context of other disciplinary approaches being essentially useful should be the emphasis. Thus student’s curriculum in academic institutions must include such interdisciplinary approaches as part of the studies in Chemistry with a clear mentioning the discipline from where the approach is adapted for chemistry.

At higher levels of study of chemistry, when the students have attained enough knowledge of the subject of chemistry, then the aspect of utility of chemistry must be emphasized so that a purposeful pursuit of chemical sciences becomes possible. Such a purposeful pursuit renders the regular activities in chemical sciences, even under specific job requirements, interesting and as scientist’s efficiency remains at the required standard.

Researchers must be able to specify in their contributions whether the study being reported involves interdisciplinary approaches and to which context. The key words supplied to refer to the work can clearly delineate the other disciplines and the main discipline to which the results pertain.

The effort herein is to enable an elucidation of the above perspective from some of the results reported as in the following references. Finally the role of mega-media as aid in educational technology would be pointed out.
